Dental Care

Dental emergencies can be stressful, but with preventative care and knowing where to turn, you can stay calm and be better prepared. Contemporary Family Dentistry is available to help during a dental emergency and provide information to keep your smile healthy.

What are some examples of dental emergencies?

If you're experiencing a dental emergency that requires immediate attention from a professional, we recommend contacting our office as soon as possible to schedule an emergency visit with your dentist. We understand that dental emergencies happen unexpectedly, so reach out to us any time and schedule an appointment as quickly as possible to minimize any damage or long-term effects.

A dental emergency includes but isn't limited to, the following:

  • A cracked, broken, chipped or fractured tooth

  • A lost restoration, such as a filling or a crown

  • Severe toothaches or any other tooth pain or intense discomfort

  • Partially or completely knocked-out tooth

  • Damage to any soft tissues in your mouth, including tongue, cheeks, gums and lips

What should I do during an emergency?

If you're experiencing any of the conditions mentioned above, contact our office at 405-485-2020. Your dentist will be able to evaluate the damage and restore the health of your smile. In case of trauma to the head or neck, it's important to visit the emergency room or a general physician before scheduling with us, even if your teeth are also affected.

Here are the immediate steps you should take.

Step 01

After a tooth has been injured, call 405-485-2020. It's important to see a dentist as soon as possible.

Step 02

If a tooth falls out, only touch it by the crown (the part you see when you smile) and never by the roots.

Step 03

Place the tooth or any pieces of the tooth in milk, Save-A-Tooth™ solution (available at supermarkets and drugstores) or inside your cheek to keep the tooth's cellular material alive until you arrive at the dental practice. Timing is critical and the sooner the tooth is preserved, the more likely it can be saved and put back into place..

Step 04

For toothaches or swelling due to an injury, you can use a cold compress to minimize discomfort.

Step 05

Gauze is best for controlling bleeding inside the mouth.
