Sedation Dentistry

For many patients, visiting the dentist can be an anxiety-inducing experience. At CFD, we understand these concerns and are committed to creating a calm, comfortable environment through sedation dentistry. By partnering with experienced anesthesiology professionals, we ensure our patients can fully relax during their appointments.

Sedation dentistry helps alleviate fear and discomfort by using nitrous oxide (laughing gas), IV sedation, or oral sedation, depending on each patient’s needs. These methods promote deep relaxation, often reducing or eliminating anxiety and leaving little to no memory of the procedure.

Types of Sedation

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered through a nasal mask, inducing a relaxed, euphoric state. The effects wear off quickly after treatment, allowing patients to drive home and resume normal activities immediately.

IV Sedation

Ideal for patients with severe dental anxiety or those requiring extensive treatment in a single visit, IV sedation places patients in a deep, dream-like state. Most have little to no memory of the procedure. Since the sedative effects can linger, patients must arrange for a trusted friend or family member to drive them home (this is available in our Newcastle location only)!

Oral Sedation

Taken in pill form before the appointment, oral sedation induces drowsiness and relaxation, allowing patients to receive necessary dental care without stress. Like IV sedation, its effects can last beyond the appointment, so patients will need someone to drive them home.
